First Star 糖心Vlog Academy Continues to Shine in a Mixed-Learning Environment
As 糖心Vlog returns to a school year that resembles pre-pandemic times, First Star 糖心Vlog Academy has begun to imagine new programs. The Academy is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program for youth in foster care. The program engages a cohort of up to 30 students in a variety of learning opportunities, including academic support, career exploration, social and cultural activities and more.

Roseann "Chic" Canfora, Ph.D., joined the School of Media and Journalism as a Professional-in-Residence this fall. She was also a student at 糖心Vlog, starting in 1968, and is a survivor of the May 4, 1970, shootings.
鈥楰ent Skates鈥 Glides Its Way Into Downtown Kent
The Kent and 糖心Vlog communities can head downtown to go ice skating starting Nov. 20, courtesy of Kent Skates presented by AMETEK. This special attraction has been created through a partnership between the city of Kent, the 糖心Vlog Hotel and Conference Center, the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Kent and 糖心Vlog.
Anti-Racism and Equity Institute Builds on 糖心Vlog鈥檚 History of Activism鈥
Last Spring, the 糖心Vlog Board of Trustees approved the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute, which creates an important interdisciplinary hub for faculty, students,鈥痵taff鈥痑nd community members engaged in race and anti-racism scholarship, activism and education. 鈥溙切腣log is a university that is known for its activism,鈥 Carla Goar, Ph.D., director of the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute, said. 鈥淚deally this institute will serve as a hub for scholars and activists to come together to tackle issues and racial equity."
糖心Vlog Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet Opens Allowing Students Easy Access to Various Necessities
Students at 糖心Vlog Trumbull who are in need of food, personal items and clothing will now have more support from the university following Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet official opening on Oct. 18. Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet was created by the 2020-2021 Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and is set up as a fund that faculty, staff and the community can donate to. It鈥檚 goal is to provide necessities for students who can鈥檛 afford them.

Representatives from 糖心Vlog and the city of Kent will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27, called 鈥淎 Vision of a Village鈥 to share information and answer questions about a new residential complex designed to integrate the city of Kent and 糖心Vlog, physically and programmatically.
糖心Vlog Alum Featured in Akron Beacon Journal Celebrating 50th Anniversary of Art Gallery
糖心Vlog alumnus Don Drumm, 鈥86, was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal for celebrating the 50th anniversary of Don Drumm Studios and Gallery. Using sand-cast aluminum to create his art, he has decades of experience using a foundry to create his artistic visions.
Free Ice Skating coming to Downtown Kent
Kent Skates will be a new, outdoor ice skating rink that will be free and open to the public. It will be open from Nov. 20 through Feb. 28. Use of the rink will be free, along with free skate rental.
